How to Heal a Broken Heart
Everyone who has gone through a broken heart will tell you that it is a most painful experience. No matter what your age and gender, the emotional hurt will be intense. If you are going through this difficult period, here are a few suggestions that can help you manage and cope.
Accept and Just Let Go
This is the hardest thing to do. First, give yourself a day or two to just grieve. Afterwards, begin the process of letting go. Start by discarding the stuff you used to share with your ex.
If it helps, start a journal and write about the experience. If you are still feeling bitter, write down the anger and hurt you feel. Do not show this to anyone.
Later on, you can use this journal to try and analyze what happened to the relationship. As the days go by, take the time to review the things you have written. You will notice that your emotional feeling during the early days will be different from the way you feel now. It is all part of letting go.
Note: do not write an account of your relationship online using your real names. You may regret it one day.
Indulge in Your Favorite Activities
Another way to heal a broken heart is to spoil yourself. You have just gone through (and going through) a difficult time, so give yourself a helping hand.
Eat your favorite food (chocolates, pizza, whatever) as you watch your favorite TV shows or films. For the weekends, you can just spend the day sleeping, eating or playing video games. In other words, do the things you like. It will put you in a positive mood, which is something you need.
Socializing
Start by getting in touch with your old friends. At this point you should not worry about dating again. Instead, you should try to just get back into the flow of things.
Meet with your friends and catch up with their lives. You can attend (or even host) a get-together. Just make sure you do not get drunk, and try to keep the discussions light hearted and fun. Making new friends is another way to heal yourself.
Other Things to Consider
Do not worry if you are still feeling depressed after several weeks. Just focus on socializing and healing yourself. Do not worry about how long the process is taking. As to when you should reestablish communication with your ex, that is up to you. Some would prefer not to make contact again, which is all right.
If you decide to contact your ex, the intentions must be clear. You are seeking to rekindle the friendship or just make the closure formal and cordial. Do not entertain thoughts of reigniting the relationship. The last thing you need is to get your hopes up and have it dashed again.
It takes time to heal a broken heart, and there is no way to escape the aches and pains. But if you follow the suggestions above, you should be able to get through it.
